Massachusetts is a great state for art fans because it has so many educational institutions and most of them seem to have high quality art museums. Harvard has three art museums, Smith and Amherst colleges both have notable museums, and even Phillips Academy, a prep school, has an impressive collection. Boston, of course, has the beloved Museum of Fine Arts, and Williamstown, in the northwest corner of the state, has the Clark Institute, home of some of our favorite paintings.

As for other tourist attractions, we found the Kennedy Library to be very moving, and downtown Boston is great to explore with traditional architecture, attractive gardens and squares, boutique shopping streets, and in the North End, a colorful neighborhood of Italian  restaurants.
