We made a morning walk on Nevsky Prospect and then took an afternoon guided bus tour out to Catherine Palace which is 15 miles south of St Petersburg. Catherine Palace was built by Tsarina Elizabeth who named it after her mother Catherine I who was the second wife of Peter the Great. During WWII, Catherine Palace was occupied by the German Army and much was destroyed. Restoration and reconstruction has been going on there for years. The next day we took the train to Moscow.
